The Old Man of the Sea

Okay, I have no idea whether this brown pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is actually old or not (or even a male), but he's weathered enough to almost look like a carving. Taken at the Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center in Tavernier, Florida, he was hanging out on a rooftop waiting for free handouts.

Since the Center rehabilitates injured waterfowl for release back into the wild, they will continue feeding new releases until they find their own locales, or rejoin the migratory patterns. So it's likely this guy counts as 'captive,' though there's nothing stopping wild birds from joining the throngs getting hand-fed fish each day. He could be just lazy...
