In North Carolina during the summer, the humidity is so high that blue skies often don't exist, instead being pretty hazy even on the clearest days. Usually it takes the coming of winter to really clear things up and produce colors like this.
I was waiting at a ferry dock near Hatteras in January and spotted this composition — trite, but it still works. These are Laughing Gulls (Larus atricilla) in winter plumage, except for the guy in the back that I can't make out.
