You might recall that October 31st is International I Need Some More time Day and is actually 48 hours long instead of the usual 24. As handy as this is, it turns out there are repercussions, the biggest being that despite our valiant efforts, it still takes a certain amount of time for the Earth to

Do not read tag under penalty of law
It’s January, and that day you’ve been dreading is nigh – really, I don’t know why you keep reading this blog when you know what’s going to happen. Yes, I’m talking about the annual tag roundup, the time when we look back over the post tags that had only one use within the 1500-plus posts to see just why this might be.
On most blogs and suchlike phenomena, it’s
Storytime 2
This is a spider from the family of cribellate orb weavers – near as I can tell, this is a genus Uloborus, and from the active range I’m leaning towards a U. glomosus. Curious body structure, to be certain, but this image from August 2010 marked the first time (and so far,
Odd memories, part 20
Photography remains nonexistent and my time remains thin and sporadic, with no change to these visible in the immediate future, so for now we’ll just have some nonsense posts. It’ll get better soon, I promise.
Every once in a while, these memories come back to me, vestiges of another life – my move from central New York to North Carolina (even is it was central NC) marked
Just in time!
I know, you’ve been watching all month to see what the holiday for October would be, but what could I do? This is the day it was set for. But you may be glad you waited, because October 31st is (among other things, apparently,) International I Need Some More Time Day, the day when we’re permitted to catch up on everything that’s been getting behind. To that end,
Odd memories, part 19: Citation needed
It’s funny – I knew what I was going to name this post almost as soon as I decided to tackle it this evening.
This… is a Chevrolet Citation.
It was a subcompact car produced in the early 1980s, popular briefly until enough people found out how mediocre they were. There was also a four-door (or five-door, counting the rear hatch) version, but this is what we want
A magic era
Just a curious, passing thought: There is only going to be a brief moment in history where, “Like a t-shirt to the nuts,” is a valid and understandable analogy, and we live in that moment. Enjoy it while you can – it’ll be something to pass onto the grandkids.
The analogy, I mean, not the t-shirt. The nuts have presumably already been passed on to them by that time.
The unwanted and uncalled-for sequel
This is a follow-up video to a series of still images that I took five years ago, and I realized right as I was finishing the editing that I missed the anniversary date by only a couple of days. I couldn’t have posted on the precise day anyway, because my video account has a weekly limit and I’d exceeded it with the previous offering.
And I probably shouldn’t be posting this anyway.
Podcast: Hybridcast
Today is Highly Debatable Humor Day, when we celebrate those examples of humor where the appeal could be wildly subjective if you don’t find it amusing, well, you’re in accordance with a certain percentage of victims listeners/viewers, so just take heart in the idea that you’re not alone.
I kinda jammed it all together with this one. What started out as an idea for a longish photo
Totally tubular
It’s been a while since I featured something from Ze Frank (or is it zefrank?) and I’m happy to rectify that with this latest offering:
I was originally going to leave it at that and be happy, but two things intervened:
1) I haven’t been posting enough anyway
2) I’ve had some images kicking around for years and have never written about them, even though I’ve been meaning
