first off, pretty decent image of sunspots, clearly taken with a solar filter. Getting the timing and focus down to capture the International Space Station so
Astronomy Picture of the Day today had a lovely sunspot image.
… which they said was presently crossing the sun. We’re in a narrow window between scattered clouds and rainstorms that are due within hours, so I quickly grabbed the solar filter and went out to see just how visible this sunspot group was. Actually, not too shabby.

I had a small change I wanted to make to the solar filter holder that I’d created, and it required 3D printing a new part – so of course, the printer started printing very undependably and in a weird manner, and it took me no small amount of time to find it and fix it. Once I’d done so and finally got the new part printed and ready, the sun viewing conditions went to crap.
So finally,
I have a collection of semi-recent but unrelated images in the blog folder awaiting my attention, either to include them in a post or simply discard them as irrelevant, and so I decided that I’d do posts around a single image, partially because I haven’t been posting much and this is easier. Somewhere in there will sneak in a couple of longish, philosophical posts as I get motivated
