{"id":16257,"date":"2015-03-10T17:59:42","date_gmt":"2015-03-10T21:59:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wading-in.net\/walkabout\/?p=16257"},"modified":"2015-03-10T17:59:42","modified_gmt":"2015-03-10T21:59:42","slug":"repercussions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wading-in.net\/walkabout\/2015\/03\/repercussions\/","title":{"rendered":"Repercussions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.treelobsters.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Tree Lobsters!<\/em><\/a> is a webcomic that I only peruse periodically, once a week or so, and when I found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.treelobsters.com\/2015\/03\/663-zero-day.html\" target=\"_blank\">this one<\/a> I had to check to see whether I&#8217;d posted my <a href=\"http:\/\/wading-in.net\/walkabout\/2015\/02\/on-the-horizon\/\" target=\"_blank\">trash talk on artificial intelligence predictions<\/a> before, or afterward. Luckily, mine came first &#8211; I hate looking like I&#8217;m stealing someone else&#8217;s idea.<\/p>\n<p>[I also love the references to Voight-Kampf testing, with the caveat that, &#8220;Test may register a false positive with sociopaths.&#8221; If you don&#8217;t get this, you can try to fake that you do, but you&#8217;re better off running before someone can bring a weapon to bear.]<\/p>\n<p>Second, I sent the same anole images from yesterday&#8217;s post to <a href=\"http:\/\/wading-in.net\/walkabout\/2014\/10\/struttin\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dan Palmer<\/a> last night with a very brief text accompaniment, within which was the phrase, &#8220;The lizard still surprised me.&#8221; Dan is in a northern clime so I was kind of explaining that we weren&#8217;t <em>that<\/em> far away from winter here, yet he took it another way entirely &#8211; actually, quite a few other ways. This morning I received a reply with, as he put it, potential continuations to, <strong>&#8220;The lizard still surprised me&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;..after all these years.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..with a kiss and a swift departure.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..with the DNA test.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..by copping to *both* murders.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..and ultimately ruined my childhood &#8211; it could have busted the Santa myth much more gently.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..as reptiles are wont to do.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..with the sincere apology.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..Valentine&#8217;s Day was weeks ago.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..I did not recognize him without the eyepatch.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..I thought that I had eliminated them from this planet during the mid-80&#8217;s.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..who drinks hot chocolate went it&#8217;s this warm out?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..Pampers makes lizard-sized?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..after the Bay of Pigs, I thought he was dead!&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..he hadn&#8217;t even heard of Harry Potter.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..with a gentlemanly poke of his walking stick and an invitation to the club.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..he was wearing his Villiage People T-shirt.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..her lipstick and nail polish didn&#8217;t match.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..and I *love* surprises!&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..before it&#8217;s battery ran out.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..despite the lingering awkwardness from the &#8220;barn&#8221; incident.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..he was posing under a spider web that said, &#8216;Pigs suck.&#8217; &#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..but only because I can percieve more dimensions of sarcasm than the human species.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..for the last time.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..the six-shooter in his holster wasn&#8217;t even loaded.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..it didn&#8217;t taste at all like bubble gum.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..without Mary and their 14 little darlings.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..the stock tip proved quite lucrative.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..pawn to G5, checkmate.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..nobody brings up the Partridge Family anymore.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..we had agreed to split the winnings 50-50 &#8211; now one of us was going to die.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..they were out of red sparklies.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..tequila, at this hour?&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Followed twenty minutes later by another batch<strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;.. claimed his name was D.B. Cooper.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..had a very interesting theory about quarks.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..told me I could save 15% or more on car insurance.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..was almost unrecognizable with the new tat.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..I expected someone taller.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..that his name was an anagram of &#8220;Zildar&#8221;.<br \/>\n&#8220;..that&#8217;s what hermaphrodite means?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..he claimed to have let the dogs out.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..he had eaten all the Skittles.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..he had actually heard of Emo Phillips.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..had been rendered mute by the remote.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..had a thing for pickles.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..you know, I really wasn&#8217;t expecting that &#8211; hence the surprise &#8211; I guess you had to be there.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..lizards have blue snot?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..eyes *are* window to the soul.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..he wasn&#8217;t supposed to be back until Friday.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..if he was here, then who the hell was that in the pool this morning?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..I thought it was snails that left a slime trail.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..not everybody makes sergeant that fast.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..I couldn&#8217;t picture him running for office.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..help me, I can&#8217;t stop.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At that point, I asked if he was <em>trying<\/em> to provoke me into posting them, whereupon the followup this afternoon was another batch. Okay, then.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;..he said he would get at least a B-, and he did.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..turns out he&#8217;s a well-known anime model.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..liked Ghostbusters 2 better than 1.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..he doesn&#8217;t have a Facebook page.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..he&#8217;s done unspeakable things with Q-tips.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..and after 35 years of marriage, that&#8217;s really all you can ask for.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..but not as much as the tarantula did.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..he really has been donating his lunch money to charity.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..he has the reflexes of Starbucks barrista with the shakes.<br \/>\n&#8220;..her lingerie collection is larger than mine.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..he drinks milk right out of the carton.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;..he leads a double life as tax advisor *and* a taxidermist.
