The End

The subject for one particular photographic competition/exercise I once took part in was "The End," which is a nice broad mandate wide open for interpretation. I had several different ideas, but this one turned out to be my favorite.

Taken in the Hillsborough Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Hillsborough, NC, I chose the branches of a dying cedar tree, with its nicely contrasting azure berries, to frame a background gravestone. The muted colors caused by the light from the near-overcast sky just seemed to make it all work – brighter colors and higher contrast would have changed the overall effect, I think. I like it.
