Isn't it cute?
monochrome southern flying squirrel Glaucomys volans

Many years ago while working for a North Carolina humane society. It was the rehabilitation season, when lots of sick and orphaned animals came to us for healing, raising, and eventual release. This cute little bug-eyed monster is a southern flying squirrel (Glaucomys volans), a very common but little seen resident, since they're active primarily at night. It shouldn't be confused with the northern flying squirrel (Glaucomys sabrinus), which is an endangered species found only in the mountains (in North Carolina, anyway). Flying squirrels are just as charming as they look, very active and agile, but surprisingly docile.

This shot was taken for both a newsletter and a fundraising brochure, but not used for either to the best of my knowledge. Can't imagine why not. Their loss!
