Nothing for the Tip Jar right at the moment – my time, motivation, and desire simply didn’t coincide this week to permit me to have something up here right now. While I have tried quite seriously to adhere to a schedule from the moment I started doing regular posts, this isn’t a job, isn’t producing income, and shows no evidence of people really counting on seeing the new stuff popping up anyway ;-). For my own discipline, I maintain it, because it’s good to have challenges and obligations, but sometimes, it’s simply going to slide a bit. Maybe I’m skipping a week, maybe it’s just slipping for a day or two, but nothing worse than that.
In the meantime, have a slide scan from back in 2001 I believe, the only time I’ve gotten images of a newborn killdeer (Charadrius vociferus.) This is another that’s been on my list, but it’s been decades since I’ve found a killdeer nest, despite how easy it is – they’re ground nesters, usually little more than a clearing among rocks and gravel, and the adult will handily inform you that you’re getting close by calling loudly from a short distance away while dragging a wing as if injured, luring you hungrily in pursuit so you don’t find the camouflage-speckled eggs in plain sight. And because of this odd placement of nests, the newborns are up and running around within an hour or so of hatching, totally unlike most other bird species. It’s very cute.

Anyway, it’s a follow-up to this post, the most recent capture of a killdeer. But no bebbehs…
