Odd memories, part 26
This is one of those that, I suspect, most of those hearing don’t really believe, but at one time I had proof. Not that that means a lot, since I think it’s vanished now, but a select handful of people got to hear it.
While I was in my late teens I became an uncle for the first time, and before my niece was talking, she was talking. By that I mean, she uttered absolute gibberish,
Topspin
In table tennis (at least,) there’s a common technique where, when you return a volley, you snap the paddle laterally and introduce spin to the ball, which causes it to bounce erratically when it hits the table on your opponent’s side, hopefully causing them to miss the return. Topspin generally means the bounce will be very low and the ball even accelerates usually,
None. None more cyan
I was thinking I’d used a variation of this title before, but not according to my title list. It was probably one of the images…
Regardless, a little break before we get back to more birds.
This is one of those sorting finds that I just thought you needed to see the details of, a tiny damselfly from the yard. It’s likely a skimming bluet (Enallagma geminatum,)

You want trivial? I’ll give you trivial!
Don’t ask me why I’m doing this, because I don’t know myself, but it’s better than doing drugs. I suspect, anyway. Herein lies a collection of trivia, backstories, and inside jokes regarding the Profiles of Nature posts – not every one, mind you, so it won’t be that long. But it’ll probably be long. If you like any kind of social
I don’t mean to tag, but…
Hoo boy, yesirooty! It’s that time of the year, the time when we rub your face into the cold, boring weather and the lack of interesting subjects by doing the ol’ tag roundup! In case you’re new here, I’ll point out that tags are the little topical words attached to posts…
“I know what the hell a tag is, Sunshine,” you may say derisively, but I shoot
Profiles of Nature 52
52?! Really? Does this mean…?
[We ain’t saying nothing.]
This week we find Riantsoa, breaking the fourth wall while her partner Barguy judges the window treatments. We wonder now why it’s referred to as the ‘fourth’ wall, since in most cases there are, technically and theoretically, no others it should be the first or only wall, the
