Skeptic magazine just wanted to screw with my timing, and immediately after I put up the last book review (previous post,) they started a five-day 25% off sale on everything in their store, which includes the

By the numbers
The last post was one from my numbered series, and unfortunately I have three more from other series in the pipes, so you’re going to see a lot of sequels – I’m going to try and space them out as much as possible. And hopefully, I’ll do a better job than Hollywood sequels. At least mine are all by the original director…
Book on sale
Courtesy of Jerry Coyne at Why Evolution Is True, I want to alert people that Donald Prothero’s book Evolution: What the Fossils Say and Why It Matters is now on sale at Amazon, in e-book format. Normally $23.99, for month of November it is just $3.99!
In addition, one of Coyne’s readers, James (yes, the same James we all know and love) is throwing in an extra bonus:
Mad, you say?
In honor of the day, I present to you an image from a few weeks ago, while I was trying to get decent photographs of a tiny thread-legged assassin bug, Stenolemus lanipes. I thought the pattern on the abdomen could be considered appropriate.
Though I admit, now that The Girlfriend’s Younger Sprog pointed out the ‘horns’ to me, which I’d missed at first, I now can’t help

“Now where did this odd callous on the side of my thumb come from?”
Oh. Yeah.
That might do it…
Take heart!
I’m sorry, this really does amount to (I feel terribly uncouth even breathing the word) a tweet, and I hereby promise not to make a habit of it. No matter how feeble your understanding of biology or science, or even if you’re an incredible asshole, you can still go on to become a Republican politician!

Whoops
I don’t use RSS feeds, thus I’m not familiar with how they display mistakes. So if anyone got a notification of a new post that doesn’t exist, that’s my bad – I inadvertently published an upcoming one when I meant to just save the draft. I try to space these out to rotate subject matter and length, but this one is too much like the last, so I want to get some other
Just because, part six
As the weather turned rather chilly, and more than a smidgen damp, I decided to play with the squishy conditions.
Did you know that those paranormal ‘orbs’ have a tendency to hide behind drops of water? Strange but true…
This may bode
And so, another experiment. I am putting up a handful of introductory podcasts, to try and determine if there’s the faintest interest. This was based on a recommendation from, I believe, a blogger on Scientific American, and while I’m not entirely sold on the idea yet, I’m willing to give it a try. So I recorded a few previous posts and linked them below.
I can say that
Stay true
I came across this image in my stock yesterday and liked the abstract that could be created from a tight crop, especially since I missed prime focus.
Of course you recognized this as the fingers of a ring-tailed lemur, taken while visiting the Duke Lemur Center in Durham, NC. It just goes to show you that even with appropriate subjects, I just can’t do “cute.”
