Still more of the shit I get up to

Definitely one of the more awkward things I’ve ever attempted, especially in the name of mere curiosity.

So the eastern kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula) made another appearance a few minutes ago, and this time it was too far out of the burrow to retreat back into it, so in moments I had it in hand. First things first: this is not the same one as read more

Somebody being perverse

Out last night trying (and succeeding) to find a new Estate Find, I came back to the outside door to Walkabout Studios and saw a distinctive pattern, right alongside the steps: an eastern kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula) emerging from a burrow about as close to my door as it could be. The day after World Snake Day as well, when I spent so much time trying to locate any. read more

As luck would have it…

… I found nothing for World Snake Day, despite making more than a passing effort (which resulted in a lot of other photos, but they’ll be along in another post.) So we have the fallback images that I snagged a few days earlier, and a potentially-related bonus that was at least obtained yesterday.

The other day while refilling the hummingbird feeders, I found a decent snakeskin in the read more

Estate Find XXVI

Kind of a repeat on this one, but I still wanted to feature it to show what a full-grown adult looks like (the one on the right, I mean.) It’s been hotter than hell here the past couple of weeks, making even being outside uncomfortable and actually a bit risky, thus I had fewer opportunities to snag something of interest. So we have this little girl (I think, anyway):

That’s read more

Estate Find XVII

Okay, yes, we had one of these last year, but that was before the Estate Finds were active, plus I haven’t found anything too compelling this week. And in fact, I had missed this juvenile eastern kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula) entirely as I marched past, but The Girlfriend spotted it and directed me to where it had disappeared under the leaf litter read more

Today’s surprise

Well, okay, this one wasn’t a surprise – it’s just evidence that I’m still trying to get really nice pics of the pileated woodpeckers (Dryocopus pileatus) that keep visiting the property, despite their penchant for appearing through a thicket of foliage. I was busy with other tasks as this one was flitting around, so I couldn’t dedicate read more

Just once, part 8

So not only has this species only appeared once before here, I’ve only seen them once in my entire life (in the wild anyway,) despite the fact that they’re supposed to be quite common. So I was delighted to spot this eastern kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula) just snoozing out in the open in a heavily wooded spot alongside Jordan Lake, but it also was amazingly read more

Order! Order!

If I could effectively communicate the mental turmoil that I’m going through right now, the seething internal struggle, with mere words, I would, but I sincerely doubt that you’re understanding it on an emotional level. However, with at least two posts in the pipes regarding the South Carolina trip, I’m not only going to talk about photos obtained after said trip, I’m read more
