Almost an extension of last week’s, which seems like it was a lot longer ago than it was. This was because I got the photos and video clip for last week’s that Monday, only three days after the preceding Find (XLVIII) and four days before it posted, and now these clips came this past Wednesday and Thursday evenings, nine and ten days following. Is that confusing? Let’s just say

Full circle?
Several days back we looked out and suddenly found mallards out there on the pond, after having them all disappear sometime in July I believe. This was noteworthy by itself, to a small degree, but there was an aspect that made us a little excited, in that, some of them might have been ‘ours.’
You see, over the summer we raised a trio of orphaned mallards and, well, no point in repeating
Almost a library now
As hinted at in some previous posts, I now have a new instructional video available – my second, I believe. This one has a simple technique to reduce the background or recording hiss from the audio within video clips, and can make your video sound much cleaner and slicker. Even better, it can be accomplished with open-source freeware that’s available for Linux, Windows, and Mac.

Credit for this one goes to The Girlfriend, a discovery made while she was distributing the thrice-daily ration of corn for the various critters that come to partake we now have (at least) two more:
But we’re not letting it go at that, because I have still images too.
When she came to get me, I knew the camera and long lens was still affixed to the tripod in the upstairs bathroom
A few from today
I’ve been in the middle of two video projects, trying to find the opportunities to finish them, so naturally I add a third. But I got a handful of photos today as well, so here’s what’s been happening here (except for the other things which you’ll see eventually.)
First off, I noticed something slightly odd-looking about a few of the wood ducks (Aix sponsa) this morning,
Let’s catch up with the wood ducks
I know I tend to cycle around the same handful of photo and video subjects herein, but let’s face it: I have easy access to several different forms of wildlife without even leaving the property, so this is what I’m going to have the most photos of, as well as being able to observe behavior better than I ever have before. At least I haven’t fixated on just one subject…
So yes,
Estate Find XLVI
Another two part one this week – we’ll start off slow.
While I had been seeing some news alerts that the aurora borealis might be visible in several northern states, I paid little heed to them since North Carolina, despite its name, is far from being considered a ‘northern’ state. Then The Girlfriend’s Sprog told me that we might actually be seeing a display here, and

We hope you’ll join us in welcoming back our old friends – unless of course they’re not actually our old friends, in which case we welcome some new ones, even when they’re not as friendly.
As I said in the video, the Canada geese (Branta canadensis) have been missing from the environs since May – the last time they appeared was to
Estate Find XLII
You’ll notice that I corrected the roman numerals this time, after blowing it for the last two Estate Find posts – don’t ask me what I was thinking. And we have nothing new for this one, but we’ll feature two for the week anyway.
The first was done at the same time as the previous post’s pics, only about a meter or so away. I saw a flash of movement as I got closer,
They’re coming back
It’s been interesting watching the various wildlife that rotates around Walkabout Estates Plus, their schedules and habits, though we’ve only been here a year and so we don’t know if these are schedules. The visitors we like the most are the wood ducks, but they remain exceptionally spooky and so photos and video of them are tricky, often having to be
