It’s now this scattered occasion when we see a mother wood duck (Aix sponsa) visit with her brood, and it’s routinely been at a time when I’m unprepared this is because they can see us easily even when we’re in the house watching out the windows, which are too distorting to actually shoot through. The options are, a) be outside but someplace

Reclaimed
A few weeks back, we installed a new light fixture by the front walk, mounted to a 4×4 post. Going to the local Lowes Home Improvement store to get a cap for it was utterly pointless, despite the fact that they listed 15 of them in stock – the store has repeatedly proven to be grossly incompetent, and unfortunately it’s the only place for such materials within 30 kilometers. This
Estate Find XXIII
Why is it that it seems (to me anyway) to be okay to write “XXIII” but not “XXVIII,” instead making me think it looks cleaner to write “XXIIX”? I mean sure, it’s a digit less, but doesn’t it just look better? Yet I don’t think writing “XXIIV” works the same way…
Or we could just stop pretending that it’s somehow classier
Sorting finds n+12
This past sorting task was overdue and required me to slog through 2,000 images, and the earliest image was still just May 2nd – less than a month. Now you understand why I keep talking about a photo backlog, and these only added to it…
I can’t recall the exact circumstances for this one, but we’ve noticed that if the wood ducks (Aix sponsa) get suspicious,
With a bonus
While getting all of the photos for the latest Estate Find, a set of bonuses simply walked right in, literally. I was sitting on the steps down from the deck with the camera and long lens in hand, just snagging pics of opportunity of the dusky Canada geese, when I spotted activity from the edge of the pond.
I don’t have to tell you this is a wood duck (Aix sponsa,)
Blameless
Yes, we’re back on the wood ducks again, but let’s be real – they’re the coolest birds and right here on the property not even god is gonna blame me for posting about them *
Anyway, after doing the nighttime photos of the mother and ducklings on Turtle Island, I kept watching for them, getting some more shots and then, one evening, spotting the mother just
Estate Find XV
All week I wasn’t finding a whole lot of new things to photograph, and Thursday was busy all day, so I ended up trying to find something late Thursday night/early Friday morning. I was out with the night rig, and indeed got a glimpse of beavers, twice, but never could get focus before they slipped out of sight, and my attempt to out-patience them failed I saw some ripples
It’s time
When did we last feature wood ducks? A couple of weeks ago? That’s enough of a gap.
Yesterday I looked out the office window and found a pair of the wood ducks (Aix sponsa) hanging out on the little log that serves as a turtle basking spot for the smaller species. They had a good view directly into my office window themselves, and so I shut off the lights therein to hopefully not disturb
You can’t get there from here
If you are hoping to see some detailed and remarkable photos of this morning’s total lunar eclipse, you are in the wrong location. I mean, I can provide photos of other lunar eclipses, but not the most recent, since the conditions here made a brief foray into “execrable” before they descended into “fucked.”
This is the best that I got through the cloud
Been building
This has been a while in the making, as will become evident, but it worked.
Most of the pics are old, because I was trying to accomplish a few things first, and so we see a pair of the wood ducks (Aix sponsa) hanging out on the pond back when it was nearly frozen, during the sleet and freezing rain storm last month. We’d already been distributing corn for the Canada
