Zelus luridus is a fairly common
It’s been a little while since we’ve had a musical break, and this seems like a good candidate. As I said, my music tastes are unabashedly mired in the 1980s, with the occasional contemporary popping up here and there (Coldplay will probably be along at some point or another,) and so we ride the wayback tortoise to 1987 to check out Berlin’s Like Flames.

This Monday color comes from the same outing related here, as a member of the Halictidae family, otherwise known as sweat bees, partakes of the flower of a partridge pea plant (Chamaecrista fasciculata.) It’s funny – I grew up calling them sweat bees like everyone
Today’s Monday color was shot exactly one year ago – tomorrow. I say this now so you have time to find a gift.
I almost used this for a previous Monday color, because that week was when I introduced the page of editing tricks that features
No exact species for this one, just a crocus planted by The Girlfriend’s Younger Sprog at the old place last year, a welcome bit of early spring color while nearly everything else was dismal. But for giggles, we’ll boldly defy the topic and go monochrome, in a special way.
This is the same image, converted to greyscale, but with one important distinction:
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I lost track of what day it was and was concentrating on other things, but that’s just pathetic whining under the looming threat of the whip. To try and make up for it, however (now that your day is already off to a bad start,) I humbly offer this remarkably current image, taken less than an hour ago. It’s almost like a Twatter account
For today’s Monday color, we go back almost exactly five years (one day shy,) and over about eight or so kilometers, and turn mostly north, to the UNC Botanical Gardens and a butterfly, probably a silver-spotted skipper (Epargyreus clarus,) on an amaranth spike. This is the kind of image I consider a magazine cover:
So, for this Monday color we have an image that’s faintly unsettling to me. Not for any peculiar associations I have with the Digitalis family (though in truth we haven’t gotten along since that incident at the airport,) but because the color seems off, and not able to be corrected in any way. It has the appearance of something that had originally been shot in monochrome, like
For today’s Monday color we rely on a recent image, taken the same night as the photos from this post when I was playing with the ultra-violet flashlight. For reasons unknown, this dead leaf was fluorescing in weak red at select patches (the purplish-blue being the visible light emitted by the UV LEDs.) Probably evidence that aliens had landed there.
I can’t tell you what this is, from ongoing laziness. It is a flower blossom shot in a botanical garden in January, and it was either unmarked there (which I suspect,) or I failed to look at the identification tag when I shot the image (which I’ll simply accept as something that happens too often.) And now, I’m not going to do a search on flowers to try and determine
