Chasing out the spiders
Okay, finally updated the Latest Images gallery, so now it’s time to clear out a few more from the backlog of photos from the past couple of weeks. Right now these will be spiders, only a few, but impressive specimens, all from three nights ago and all from a span of eleven minutes.
Now, when I’m out with the headlamp at night, the reflections from spider eyes are distinct and frequent:
Estate Find XV
All week I wasn’t finding a whole lot of new things to photograph, and Thursday was busy all day, so I ended up trying to find something late Thursday night/early Friday morning. I was out with the night rig, and indeed got a glimpse of beavers, twice, but never could get focus before they slipped out of sight, and my attempt to out-patience them failed I saw some ripples
It’s time
When did we last feature wood ducks? A couple of weeks ago? That’s enough of a gap.
Yesterday I looked out the office window and found a pair of the wood ducks (Aix sponsa) hanging out on the little log that serves as a turtle basking spot for the smaller species. They had a good view directly into my office window themselves, and so I shut off the lights therein to hopefully not disturb
Don’t expect much
Yes, I’m aware of the total lunar eclipse due to take place in a few hours, and I am intending to pursue it (again.) However, Old Man Weather may have other ideas.
This is what it looks like out there right now, and it’s been this way for hours. It may still clear up a bit more, but if it remains like this, I’m not going to get anything worthwhile. I’ve gotten
Be quiet out there
Going out onto the back porch the other night, I heard a significant racket coming from either just outside the back fence, or just inside it. While I always have a pocket flashlight on me, the view in that immediate direction is blocked by the greenhouse and the shed, so I had to creep down there, to be greeted by no fewer than eight white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus)
Handful of night
Found a couple of subjects while poking around tonight, but only had very short periods of time to capture them, which I’ll explain in a moment. So this is what you get.
First off, I found that the spiny assassin (genus Sinea,) still occupying the basil plant, was polishing off a meal which looked a little odd, so I quickly went inside and got the reversed Sigma 28-105 and the flash

Yet another holiday rears its ugly head, but this time I was unable to celebrate it, and I apologize for not letting you know sooner, but what am I, your mother? (Seriously, am I?
