Another holiday falls upon us today, but don’t ask me how to celebrate it because I’m not exactly sure. Regardless, today is Skunk Ape Day, and if I had, like, more than three readers, I could hazard that a percentage is wondering what a skunk ape is, while those that know are wondering why I would even announce this holiday. There’s a story here, and though storytime

Just because, part 38
I’m probably not going to get too many opportunities to post in the next week, and what will be posted probably won’t be… comprehensive, shall we say? “Hit and run” is closer to the mark.
I’ve had a lot of images saved in the blog folder, some for quite a while now – 260 total – and finally decided to sit down and weed out those that weren’t going
You!
Yes, you.
Have you eaten your moths today?
Just because, part 37
I have tons of photos to post, but little time and motivation at the moment, so a quick one from the most recent outing, as a dragonfly was backlit by the sun – I cropped tight to bright out those wing details.
More to come, just don’t embarrass us both by asking when…
It was a year ago this very night…
… on a dark and stormy road – no, that’s not right at all. It was a clear and warm evening, but it was when we first saw The Monster.
Well, not exactly monstrous in appearance, anyway…
Stopping into work for a trivial task, I found a note on one of the vehicles that said someone had seen a kitten sheltering underneath –

Yes, it’s been postless around here for a few days – just one of those weeks, when the time and the desire to post were not coinciding. That’s changing a little, so right now, we have a single image to lead the way, with more to come, hopefully tonight, but within 24 hours anyway. That single image is of the first blossom from my morning glory seeds, planted late
Quick pic from not today
This one I came across again while sorting, and decided that I needed to feature it in a brief post. Back at the end of June, I was still (mostly unsuccessfully) stalking the green heron (Butorides virescens) brood around the neighborhood pond, and this one paused on the shoreline to do a little evening fishing. It was late twilight, thus very poor light, and I popped the
Today, a turtle
Likely an eastern river cooter (Pseudemys concinna concinna,) even though we were not on the Eastern River, but the Eno River instead it’s probably them damn unoriginal biologists wanting to call everything eastern, like there was some kind of east/west civil war that the east lost and still gets cranky about nearly 200 years later. This
Podcast: About damn time
Do things look different around here? They should – or perhaps not, if you delayed seeing this for too long and I actually got around to making the changes that I’d been hoping to. Yet as I type this, enough has been changed/corrected/altered/muddled/permitted/unborked to move forward, but I’ll let Noisy Al explain it:
