Just had to post some very recent pics, since I was out in the yard during the wee hours of the morning (you know, about the time you often have to wake up and wee,) looking for mantids laying egg sacs. I saw none of those, dagnabbit, but did see the ubiquitous green treefrogs of course… and one other subject that I’m going to feature here. It was, in fact, the second such example of

July to me?
Another long, eventful month to wave toodle-oo to, and so we have the month end abstracts. And all three were shot within the month, so, good on me? I guess that depends on how good the photos actually are.
From an outing early win the month with the Unforeseeable Mr Bugg (who it appears is not
Mom says you have to go now, October
And take your abstracts with you.
We have a handful of abstracts this month, more luck than effort really, though I admit the first here was wholly intentional. I set my alarm to leave precisely when I needed to, to arrive on site just as the light was hitting the ideal saturation and exposure values, and timed the ripples of the lake to fall exactly where they needed to in the frame.
Man, that’s
Mason Farm 2: Arachnidy
We now return to Mason Farm Biological Reserve, only not really because all these photos were taken during one visit that’s already days past now, so all we’re doing is seeing more photos – vacation slides from your creepy neighbor. And as the name implies (well, outright announces,) it’s gonna be spider heavy.
Part of this is because, late in the season and with chilly nights,
Mason Farm 1: Fartsy
I got enough photos from a recent outing to Mason Farm Biological Reserve to separate them into two broader categories, so we start off with the fartsy ones, since I don’t do art.
Actually, we’ll start off starting off with a setting one.
We couldn’t quite call this ‘fog,’ (or at least, I couldn’t, but Buggato had no problem with it) –
On this date 23
Back from 2005, we have an experimental image that showed proof of concept (which wasn’t really necessary – I knew the concept was solid,) but needed work on the execution. This is a mere one-second exposure while driving down a city street, intentionally streaking the various lights. One second seems to be a pretty good amount of time for this – I wouldn’t
I been busy, part 2
As we continue our quest for currency, not in the monetary sense but in the calendrical, or something, we move up to the beginning of this month, and a sunrise outing during a foggy morning out at Mason Farm Biological Reserve. I need encouragement to move away from mist and dew drops, but seeing as how I have hundreds of photos of other subjects waiting in the wings, I no longer
A little more groove
A month ago, I commented on an outing to the NC Botanical Garden where I didn’t really achieve much this time around, I did notably better, even when still not seeing some
Per the ancient lore, part 30
This one is reasonably appropriate for the time, because we have entered the season where we often hit the dewpoint not long after nightfall, and NC humidity means this isn’t halfhearted at all. Not to mention that, as I type this early yesterday morning, I am about to go out to see if the sunrise is worth pursuing.
For this photo (from, surprise surprise, the Arthropods folder,) I was out
Let’s play catchup
By about this time in the past few years, I would have posted roughly four thousand mantis pictures. I am definitely behind those numbers this year, so let’s see if we can rectify that.
To begin with, I was super-prepared this spring, having ordered a bunch of Chinese mantis (Tenodera sinensis) egg cases – called “oothecas” if you want to get technical or simply confuse
