Blogging conditions: 2

Yeah, sorry, I really haven’t been posting much at all, and while I’m aware of it and trying, there really hasn’t been a lot to say. Photography has dropped down to almost nil, and I’ve been busy with countless projects (one of which, at least, will eventually be evident,) and also recovering from some walking difficulty which makes me understandably reluctant to go out looking read more

More Monday monochrome

Let’s take another look at converting color images into monochrome. It’s not very often that I’m out with the intention of shooting images to be converted, and I never switch the camera over to monochrome mode instead, during sorting or editing I’ll pick a handful of images that look like they might fit the bill and see what comes up with the conversion read more

Somebody needs to check on this

So, while sorting photos, I had the opportunity to look again at an image I’ve featured here a short while back, and noticed some small details within the frame. Going in for a closer look didn’t clarify things too much, but I’ll give you a zoomed example to let you try for yourself.

This is, again, a trunk of driftwood on the beach at Jekyll Island, with a crab read more

Podcast: Out at sunrise

And so we come to part two of the Georgia trip, waking up early on Jekyll Island. I’ve been planning this one since the last trip, three years ago. So sit back and get comfy while I take you directly out there.

Podcast: Necessary research

Okay, I finally got enough time and an adequate frame of mind to tackle the Savannah/Jekyll Island trip – or at least part of it. You may note that, while I talk about cleverly handling a schedule in the podcast, I never actually said when I would get around to this, so I’m not behind schedule at all.

As before, I am including a few images to help illustrate the narrative, if I may use read more

An abstract for August

Okay, this one is quite a bit more abstract than some of the previous, so I feel better now. In fact, it is only that small leaf at lower left that provides some scale to begin to give a little context – I wish I’d shot a few frames without it, but I wasn’t thinking about it at the time. So go ahead, using that clue that I wantonly handed you, figure out what it read more

Not yet

I have been hoping to get some time to start posting again, especially after this trip, but it has been eluding me – when I actually have a few minutes set aside, there have either been too many people around (impossible to try and write anything,) or I’ve been ill. Posts are coming, within the next few days is my plan, but in the meantime, another beachy shot. I haven’t read more

Working on it

Once again, the sunset wasn’t up to snuff, but by being selective over the view and finding another element to work with, I got something that I like. The locale is St Simon’s Sound off of Jekyll Island, which should give you a hint as to where we spent the weekend – this was from Sunday evening and I’m just getting around to posting it now, if you can actually read more

Sun and Spanish moss

And so, slowly, I return to posting, revealing in the process that the last three posts were scheduled ahead of time to appear when they did, since we just spent a scant week in Savannah, Georgia with friends. We fit in most of what we’d aimed for the primary exception, for me, was being unable to find any scorpions, something I’ve been longing to photograph for a while, read more

Poking around

So, after the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, we poked around Jekyll Island a little bit. This was a day trip and we weren’t staying long, so there wasn’t enough time to do a proper exploration of the place, and while I normally would dig in and wander off into the hinterland, I was with friends who weren’t all into exploring. So our target was the north end of the island, where the read more
