A batch of autumnal monochroma

“Wait, monochrome?” you say, “As in, black and white? Al, you fucking moron, fall is the time to exploit the colors, not eliminate them entirely. What, are you trying to be avant-garde or poetically ironic or something equally spastic?”

Which hurts, I admit it, even when I wrote it myself. But I saw the possibilities of some of these, which worked better than most of what read more

Next batch of autumnal chroma

“Autumnal” – that’s where Radar O’Reilly is from, isn’t it?

Now on to part two of the recent fall color pics, most of them from right here at Walkabout Estates Plus, but a few from a downtown park. Like this one:

We actually saw this same tree last time – this is just a different spot on it. Making sure to use the backlighting, of course.

First batch of autumnal chroma

Boy, do we have a gout of photos to get through now! They’re going to be spaced out a bit, so perhaps they’ll last the week, but a few days at the least. And that still doesn’t count some (a lot of) video clips to edit together. So let’s get started.

This year we have a decent selection of fall colors, almost all of them local – and this was after I was concerned that read more

Down on The Bayou

That’s capitalized that way because it refers to a specific area we have three ponds, interconnected, and the southernmost one (which we only own half of) resembles nothing more than a bayou, so that’s how we refer to it. Up until this morning, I’d only seen it from the marshy banks at the northern tip, which allowed a read more

Most of the frustration, though

I went out today knowing that it was a holiday, which I could have avoided, but that would be shirking my bloggy duty, and I figured I’d just get it over with. For today is Lock Teasers Day, which is not half as much fun as the other kind.

What, exactly, is Lock Teasers Day, you ask? Which is stupid, because it’s right there in the name: it’s the day for photo subjects read more

Scaring October off

I’m later than normal, but it’s still the end of the month, so we can still have the end-of-month abstract. And I even have a couple of specific attempts, all from yesterday when I had a few minutes. Let’s see here, we have:

I believe I mentioned, but Walkabout Estates Plus has a bunch of bald cypress (Taxodium distichum) trees, right in the back forty, read more

Slow, but progress

The function of getting established at the new Walkabout Estates is going much slower than intended, primarily not our fault – we’re still waiting for the truck with most of our belongings to arrive. Until that time, we’re bouncing back and forth between minor repairs/improvements and exploring the area, but this has included going down to the waterfront soon after read more

November is not

Not after today, anyway. And that means we have the end-of-the-month abstract to deal with, because it’s tradition now. Meaningless ritual. Completely idiotic superstition. You know the deal.

Definitely abstract this time, if not a bit hard to fathom, but this is the glitter trail of sunlight reflected from slightly choppy water, seen through the needles of a bald cypress (Taxodium read more

Semi-cooperative eagles

I originally considered them uncooperative eagles, but realized that was being unfair. And then as I type this, I recognize that assigning them any level of cooperation is unfair and a stupid human perspective, because they simply don’t give a shit and are going about their days, but I digress.

These all came from an outing with The Immaculate Mr Bugg… psssfffhh, thirteen days read more
