This is probably my favorite of Jim’s Tetons compositions, a nice use of the foreground stump mimicking the background mountain in roughly 1/13776 scale. I am guessing this is Jackson Lake, which fronts the Tetons from most of the public access areas.
I’ll take a second to talk about composition here, because I would also have liked to have seen a slight variation of this, from a smidgen

A quick one this morning, an experimental shot done the other night while I was alongside a railing strung with white holiday lights. The Mamiya 80mm macro lens wide open at f4 is what’s largely responsible for the effect, and basic lens traits the balls are simply point light sources well out of focus. I have a couple more posts in the lineup right now, but I think I only have time for one this morning, so we’ll just have to see when the others arrive. It’s a shame, because one is pretty damn interesting, but I doubt I can do it justice if I rush it, so we’ll go with something more visceral and less thoughtful at the moment.

More Monday monochrome
Let’s take another look at converting color images into monochrome. It’s not very often that I’m out with the intention of shooting images to be converted, and I never switch the camera over to monochrome mode instead, during sorting or editing I’ll pick a handful of images that look like they might fit the bill and see what comes up with the conversion

More stuff will be along soon, but right now I just wanted to post this one. From a short outing yesterday to the NC Botanical Garden while the weather was nice, this is the first green treefrog (Hyla cinerea) that I’ve seen this year, pretty early as far as I’m concerned. It is perched upon a clump of scouring rushes (Equisetum hyemale) growing in
