That’s right, January has become irrelevant, and not only that, a bit long in the tooth (what a stupid phrase,) and so, to see it on its way, we hit it in the ass with the month-end abstracts. Two this month, both weak, but it’s freaking winter so put a cork in it.
It’s not hard to tell what this is, and I’ve done much the same before, but I happened to like
Well, specifically, it’s the end of the month, and the end of the year, but really, these are just arbitrary lines drawn in the sand. Still, they’re lines I’ve chosen to recognize with things like the end of the month abstract, and here’s the dealio: when I opted to alter my schedule slightly to have two ‘On This Date’ posts for this
November has been quite a frustrating month for me, so I’m more than happy to see the end of it – except, there’s absolutely no reason to believe a) that such circumstances are influenced by, well, anything b) that the arbitrary demarcation of the ‘month end’ means anything more than a simplification of our mental categorizing
… and the Bay City Rollers are excited.
The first Saturday in November is Desaturate Day, as everyone knows. Well, everyone not living under a rock with worm tunnels between their ears, anyway. And thus I’m here to inspire you to wash out, go drab, and reduce it all down to black and white, because everything is simpler that way – for a given definition of “simple,”
And take your abstracts with you.
We have a handful of abstracts this month, more luck than effort really, though I admit the first here was wholly intentional. I set my alarm to leave precisely when I needed to, to arrive on site just as the light was hitting the ideal saturation and exposure values, and timed the ripples of the lake to fall exactly where they needed to in the frame.

You know, I had a month-end abstract all picked out, but then I realized that it looked way too similar to one of the On This Date images that I also had lined up, and switched to another. But that one, which is the one above, was kinda weak, so we’re going to have two.

Really, the month’s pickings for abstract images is slim, even for my liberal and imprecise definition of the word (‘abstract,’ not ‘month,’) so we have this little number. But I may get some shooting done today, so perhaps I’ll have an addendum post show up later on, because this is embarrassing.

So, I sit here at the end of the month with over 1800 images shot therein, and find that too few of them really fulfill the idea of abstract, or at least my idea of it anyway – a couple would probably do better than these, but I have other plans for them.
